Art on Snow Gastein

The ARt on Snow as biggest arts festival of the Alps with respect to wintersports will open its doors really soon!

Only a few days till the international art and sport scene will meet in the Gastein valley from 4 to 12 February. Names like Danny Larsen, Jerome Tanon and Corey Smith make the sports hearts leap for joy and with the LOSLOHBROS, Zozoville, el lasso and ARSVIVENDA friends of contemporary art will be thoroughly satisfied.

The ARt on Snow, in the capacity as biggest arts festival of the Alps with respect to winter sports comes closer and with over 30 artists and a chock-full program it will be THE art event of the winter season. On the first of the nine event days there is already a banger waiting for the visitors: on Saturday, 4 February 12 artists will fight against each other at the Rapid Flows Marker Battle in the Silver Bullet Bad Gastein to convince the jury with their freshly painted artworks. The winners will be celebrated at the following ARt on Party.

The first-class art runs like a golden thread through the Gastein valley. Beside snow and ice sculptures in the ski areas there are three exhibitions locations in the valley. The Casino Bad Gastein is the first one and is totally dedicated to the ski and snowboard artists: for example Anton Brey will present a documentary about the new hype of night ski tours on slopes.

The Tennishalle of the Hotel Klammer’s Kärnten in Bad Hofgastein is devoted to contemporary art. Just as manifold as this field of arts the artists themselves are. The Swiss artist NIGS534 has his own style with influences of Graffiti, Streetart and conventional painting – but that does not block the diversity of the pieces. On the contrary – that is proved by many international exhibitions, live paintings and TV appearances. El lasso and the artists collective WALDUNDSCHWERT which is composed by Frau Isa and OREN also possess international experience. All of them are “somehow” influenced by Graffiti but their artworks are completely different: much drawing will be presented by el lasso, Frau Isa loves pastels and OREN pitches on elements of a wide variety of techniques and styles.

At the Festsaal Dorfgastein it is all about wintersport through the ages which is also the topic of the big Nostalgia Ski Show on Sunday 5 February at the bottom station of the Fulseckbahn in Dorfgastein. This nightly spectacle is well worth watching and another highlight in the program of the ARt on Snow.

But if you think that was everything you are on the wrong track. Real pros are ready as coaches for you in the ARt on Snow workshops. In the photo workshop Stefan Eigner who is known all over the scene will let the participants dive into sports photography for two days. In the film workshop the guys around Simon Huber are just waiting to create a snowboard/ski action edit with ambitious and motivated hobby filmmakers in two days.

For both workshop the motto is “first come – first served”. So come on chaps – register, as the tickets for the courses are limited.
