A Pretty Average Interview about Pretty Average Snowboarding

As you know, we’re all about local snowboarding here at Whiteout, so when we started to hear rumors of a project from one of our favorite crews, we were naturally curious. The Black Dolphins have got their priorities straight, representing good looking snowboarding that doesn’t take itself too seriously. They were nice enough to let us host the online premiere of their new movie, so be sure to check it out and read on for a little interview about the importance of keeping it average.

Hey Kaspar, I’m pretty stoked on this year’s movie. Can you introduce yourself and tell us a little about how, “Pretty Average Snowboarding” became a thing?
Alright, I’m Kaspar Hösli and I grew up shredding my local resort Axalp. Once I got older, I started going to Grindelwald and meet the whole gang who I’ve had heaps off good times with. A season has so many fun days and sometimes it’s hard to remember everything that went down. So we came up with the idea of making a “season movie” to remember the good times. We started off quite enthusiastic (shredding the pipe with no snow) but somehow lost motivation half of the way through…

So at the end of the season I thought that there wasn’t gonna be any movie at all. Six months later shredding some Pow pow, I remembered a few good shots we got the year before. So I started going through the footage and hit everyone up. I just told them to send me any fucking video they still had (mobile shots, shitty cams, whatever), then I put it in a freaking blender and boom —> pretty average snowboarding was born!

Haha. Well, I’ve got to say, it’s a bit refreshing to see something that feels more like an honest reflection of good times, than the usual blast of self-promotion. Who are the Black Dolphins anyway?
The Black Dolphins are a highly developed and very rare species living in remote alpine powder fields. You can find them if you follow the sound of an Anker-Beercan being opened.

Mmmm… now you’re making me thirsty. Are most of the shots in the movie from Grindelwald or did you guys travel around a bit.
All shots are from the Bernese Oberland. Our home base in Interlaken / Thun provides us with some of the most beautiful terrain there is, so why spend money to go somewhere else… just kidding we don’t have any money!

Welcome to 2016… Even Nicolas is short on cash these days. But tell me, why should anyone care about pretty average snowboarding?
We are tired of all those energy drink loaded, highly trained & anabolic Snowboard  edits. Pretty average snowboarding is something everyone can relate to. Our goal is to get the viewer frothing to go and shred! Do you get that feeling when you watch someone doing a triple?

Not at all. If I pay close attention, I get a little dizzy and confused. And now that back triples are stock comp tricks I’m actually totally board of them. But on a more important note, do #BlackDolphinLivesMatter?
They do matter indeed! And you should be aware that they’re dying when they’re not in the snow, sitting around all dry… so if you ever bump into one, give’m a beer to keep them hydrated!

Will do! Any plans for this winter? Will there be a “Pretty Average” 2?
We don’t know what’s gonna happen just yet, but one thing’s for sure: The Black Dolphins are gonna be out there!

Right on… Anything else you’d like to add?

Sounds like a plan. Keep it salty Kaspar!
